RZA wants you to remix his kits into new beats! Share beats with your friends beginning March 29, 2010 on Facebook or Twitter and automatically be entered into the Duel of The Disciples Contest. The Entry Period: The entry period starts on March 29, 2010 and ends at 11:59 PM (Midnight) EST April 29, 2010.

The Grand Prize: The winning beat will be distributed as a new kit (with credit to the creator) in an upcoming iDrum App.  The creator will also receive a copy of The Tao of Wu, autographed by RZA, and a complete suite of iZotope software.  The value of this prize (without signature) is approximately $2000.

The Runner-Up Prizes:  Two runner-up prizes will be awarded.  Each runner-up will receive a copy of The Tao of Wu, autographed by RZA, and iZotope’s Mix & Master package of Alloy and Ozone 4.  The value of this prize (without signature) is approximately $500 U.S.  

Eligibility: This Contest is open to all legal residents of the United States and District of Columbia, and U.S. Military personnel (and their families) with APO/FPO addresses, who are eighteen (18) years of age or older.  Any employees, consultants, or contractors who perform services for iZotope Inc. or Wu-Tang Productions, Inc., and their immediate family members are not eligible. Participation in this contest constitutes your full and unconditional acceptance of these Official Rules.

The Entry Procedure:  You must:

  1. Read these Official Rules and agree to be bound by them.
  2. Create a new beat (kit) using iPhone App iDrum RZA of Wu Tang, Version 1.0.11.  You can only use the samples provided in the App, no outside samples are permitted.
  3. Share your beat on Facebook and/or Twitter using the sharing feature built into iDrum RZA of Wu-Tang.  Your personal entry information will only be used to contact you for the contest.
  4. Once you have uploaded your beat, you will receive a link so you can share your beat with others, such as by Twitter, Facebook, etc.
  5. You are not limited in your entries, but keep in mind that quality not quantity is what will make you a winner.

The Judging:  The entries will be initially judged by iZotope employees (who have backgrounds in music), who will select top entries for final judgment.  The RZA himself will select the winner from this pool of top entries.  The decision of the judges is final.

Here is some general advice on what the judges will be looking for:

  1. Vibe – whether it gets our heads nodding, or makes us scratch our heads, the winning beat should create a unique vibe that stands out above the rest.
  2. Originality – everyone entering the contest will start with the same sounds, so originality is key. The winners should come up with something new and unexpected in their beat.
  3.  Arrangement – while there’s nothing wrong with repetition, high marks will be given to beats that can progress somewhere interesting in a few measures.

The Winners:  You need not be present to win.  iZotope shall contact each winner via message to the winner's Facebook or Twitter account, and the winner shall then have 48 hours respond back to iZotope.  iZotope may, in its sole discretion, require the winner to sign an affidavit of eligibility.  In the event that the original winner can not be contacted (does not respond within the time period), or the original winner declines the prize or does not meet the eligibility requirements, iZotope will award the next runner-up.  This process will continue until all prizes are awarded.  Upon the winner confirming the winner’s eligibility and shipping address, iZotope shall ship the prize to the address provided by the winner.  iZotope shall only ship to an address in the United States.  A signature will be required to receive the shipment (no PO boxes, sorry).  iZotope shall announce confirmed winners using iZotope’s Twitter account (“iZotopeInc”).  

The Legal Stuff:  By uploading your entry, you hereby grant to iZotope Inc. a non-exclusive, irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide license to post your entry on our web site and allow any party to listen to and/or download your beat.  iZotope’s posting of your beat will not provide any identifiable information about you.  If you want to share your beat with others, you can forward them the link to your posted beat.  iZotope in its sole discretion may remove any posts to user-supplied entry beats without notice.  Your beat must be original, do not copy or mimic the rhythm or kit of any other person.  You agree to fully indemnify iZotope Inc., RZA, and Wu-Tang Clan Productions, and their employees from any charge that your beat violates any third party rights.

The Fine Print:  This Contest is sponsored by iZotope, Inc. of Cambridge, Massachusetts (www.izotope.com). Apple Inc. is not a sponsor of, or in any way responsible for, conducting this contest.   Prizes cannot be assigned, transferred, exchanged or redeemed for cash.  Each winner grants permission to iZotope and Wu-Tang Productions to distribute their winning beat, and to use the winner's name, age, city, state, photograph or likeness for advertising and promotional purposes without additional compensation or approval (where lawful).  Each winner is solely responsible for any taxes on the prize, and iZotope may identify the winners to any appropriate taxing authority.  iZotope’s total liability under this Contest is limited to the stated value of the prize.  iZotope is not responsible for any typographical errors in these rules.  This Contest is governed by the laws and rules of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  Void where prohibited.
