In this example, Vinyl is adding grit and dirt to the lead vocal during the bridge of a song. The DUST, MECHANICAL NOISE, WEAR, and ELECTRICAL NOISE provide an organic, lo-fi edginess to the bridge which plays well off the dark piano sound. Simultaneously, the YEAR setting band-limits the sound, focusing the vocal in a smaller frequency range providing better separation from the piano, and providing a greater contrast between song sections, allowing the vocal to open up at the upcoming final chorus.

Dial in a lo-fi vocal sound

  1. Set MECHANICAL NOISE to -15dB.

  2. Set WEAR to 8%.

  3. Set ELECTRICAL NOISE to -24dB.

  4. Set DUST to -15dB and DUST AMOUNT to 100%.

  5. Set WARP DEPTH to 11% and select the 4th WARP MODEL.

  6. Set YEAR to 1950.

  7. Set RPM to 78.
