iZotope News  |  December 12, 2016

Around this time of year, we’re always excited to see nominations appear for many of the major awards shows. The nominations mean even more when we can scan through the list and see the names of artists and teams who regularly rely on iZotope for their craft. Here are just a sampling of iZotope artists we saw pop up as nominees for the 59th Annual GRAMMY Awards.

The 59th Annual GRAMMY Award Nominations

"Ozone has changed how we release music forever." says Noah “40” Shebib, whose extensive work with Drake, Rihanna, and others has been nominated for:

  • Album of the Year: “Views,” Drake

  • Best Rap Album: “Views,” Drake

  • Best Rap Performance: “Pop Style,” Drake featuring The Throne

  • Best R&B Song: "Come and See Me," PartyNextDoor featuring Drake

  • Best Pop Duo/Group Performance: “Work,” Rihanna featuring Drake

Jordan Young, aka DJ Swivel, recently sat down with the iZotope crew for The New Audio Podcast and shared his experience coming up in the industry and connecting with producers like Dorrough and Pharrell, and artists like Kanye West, Jay Z, Beyoncé, and most recently The Chainsmokers, who picked up nominations for Best New Artist, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, and Best Dance Recording.

Beyoncé’s revolutionary visual album “Lemonade” made a bold statement in 2016, pushing the industry forward with an all new medium, and had a team of A-list engineers and producers helping realize the vision, including iZotope artists Mike Dean, Tony Maserati, and Vance Powell.

"I love using Ozone 7 on my 808s and kicks. Kind of like like mastering the separate tracks,” says Dean. “That helped the 808 on ‘Love Drought’ push through the track." Lemonade has garnered nominations for Album of the Year, Best Urban Contemporary Album, and Best Music Film.

Dean and fellow iZotope artist Noah Goldstein also co-produced Kanye West’s “The Life of Pablo,” which includes nominations for:

  • Best Rap Album: The Life of Pablo

  • Best Rap/Sung Performance (2): “Ultralight Beam” featuring Chance The Rapper, Kelly Price, Kirk Franklin & The-Dream and “Famous” featuring Rihanna

  • Best Rap Song (2): “Famous” featuring Rihanna and “Donnie Trumpet” featuring Chance The Rapper, Kelly Price, Kirk Franklin & The-Dream

While we’re hard pressed to find a category where an iZotope artist didn’t contribute to the creation, production, mixing, or mastering of those nominees, a few other notable inclusions are:

  • Album of the Year: “Purpose,” Justin Beiber; Produced by Diplo, Scooter Braun, Mike Dean, and Josh Goodwin; Mastered by Tom Coyne

  • Best Engineered Album Non-Classical: “Blackstar,” David Bowie; Engineers Tom Elmhirst, Tony Visconti, and Kevin Killen; Mastered by Joe LaPorta

  • Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album: “Summertime: Willie Nelson Sings Gershwin,” Produced by Buddy Cannon; Engineered by Tony Castle

See if any iZotope artists make it to the stage! Tune in to the GRAMMY Awards on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at 8PM ET on CBS.
